Slaying self-doubt

There’s a part 1, if you haven’t already read it, you’ll find it here.

My heart was pounding as I pressed publish…and then I went to a barbecue and self-medicated with wine and food.

…and that worked for all of 12 hours, until I woke-up the next morning and the vulnerability hangover hit. With self-doubt as the fuel to my “I just wanna hide under my duvet forever fire”.

So if you find yourself in a similar scenario with self-doubt destroying your joy and sanity.

Here’s what you can do about it…

– Ask yourself what if? You have spent so much time in the ‘what if it all goes wrong. So let’s venture into the place of what if it goes amazingly well and then even better than that, once you are there, allow yourself spend time hanging out by daydreaming on it. Visualising what it would be like, what would you be doing, how would it sound, feel and who would you be with?
The more you do this, the more it will start to feel real and possible. And you know the ‘thoughts become things’ well, its that in action.

– Personify the self-doubt. Yep that’s right, give it a character. Maybe it will be someone you know personally maybe it won’t but by giving it persona, you are taking the sting out of it. You can look upon it for what it is. Journaling is my jam and getting the thoughts out of your head and onto paper has power, so go do that if you have to. Go write about who that self-doubt is, I guarantee it will lessen its control over you.
